Good Sports: Getting A Coach Through Instagram
Fifteen-year-old Rezoana Mallick Heena of Kolkata recently set a national under-16 record in the 400m race, completing it in 53.22 seconds. She owes her success partly to her Instagram account. That’s where she had posted her training videos and caught the eye of her coach, Arjun Ajay, who invited her to train with him in Bengaluru without watching her in person.
“She had good height and her stride lengths were ideal. I knew this girl had potential,” Ajay told The Indian Express.
Ajay has been helping Rezoana with her running technique, as well as her phone addiction. “When she arrived she was constantly on her phone,” he said. “Movies, music and especially Instagram. She initially blocked me on WhatsApp so I couldn’t see if she was online during sleep time. So now the phone has been put away. She wasn’t happy with it at all but it’s an addiction we needed to break.”
