Good Sports: FIVE PLAYERS IN WORLD TOP 20
It’s a remarkable feat for India: five Indian players have reached the Top 20 in the Badminton World Federation’s men’s singles rankings. While they haven’t attained the heights of women players P. V. Sindhu (currently ranked 2nd in the world) and Saina Nehwal (a former World No. 1 player), the five men—Kidambi Srikanth (8th in the world), H. S. Prannoy (15th), Sai Praneeth (17th), Sameer Verma (19th), and Ajay Jayaram (20th)—have helped stake India’s claim as a badminton powerhouse.
No other country has more players in the Top 20 than India. Seven other Indian players appear in the Top 100, more evidence of India’s deep talent pool in badminton. As Srikanth tweeted, “It’s just the beginning and lots more to achieve.”
