Good Sports: DUTEE CHAND BLAZES A TRAIL
Sprinter Dutee Chand has become India’s first openly gay professional athlete, taking a courageous step in a country where gay sex was legalized only last September.
In an interview with The Sunday Express, Chand, 23, India’s 100-meter record holder, revealed she’s in a same-sex relationship with a woman from her hometown in Odisha.
“I have always believed that everyone should have the freedom to love,” said Chand, who won two silver medals at the 2018 Asian Games. “There is no greater emotion than love and it should not be denied.”
