Good Sports: Cricket Approved for Olympic Games in Los Angeles
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) recently approved a proposal to include T20 Cricket as a feature at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Cricket was among a package of five new sports (cricket, baseball/softball, lacrosse, flag football and squash) that the LA Local Organizing Committee (LALOG) had proposed for the LA Games.
All team sports at the Games will be six-team events for men and women, with the qualification system to be decided by 2025. According to USA Cricket, cricket made a brief appearance in the 1900 Paris Games, but has been absent since then.
“It’s a game-changer for USA Cricket, opening new horizons and strengthening our sport’s roots,” said Venu Pisike, chair of the USA Cricket Board. “This marks an exciting chapter in our journey to inspire and unite the cricketing community in the USA.”
