Good Sports : CHICAGO BEARS PROMOTE ‘THE DOC’ TO DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR
Sean Desai has a master’s degree in higher and postsecondary education from Columbia University, and a doctorate in educational administration from Temple University.
No wonder his players call him “The Doc.”
The Chicago Bears recently promoted Desai from safeties coach to defensive coordinator, making him the first Indian-American coordinator in the NFL.
The 37-year-old has been with the Bears since 2013, spending six seasons as a defensive quality control assistant before becoming safeties coach in 2019.
“He is a person of high football intelligence, extremely detail-oriented, has a very strong work ethic and I cannot think of someone more deserving to lead our defense,” head coach Matt Nagy said in a statement.
Desai has been coaching football since 2006, beginning his career as a defensive assistant and special teams coach at Temple. He was promoted to special teams coordinator in 2010 when he was just 27. He coached at the University of Miami in 2011 and Boston College in 2012 before being hired by then-Bears coach Marc Trestman.
