Good Sports: Bhatia Wins Delhi Pickleball Masters
Armaan Bhatia, a 25-year-old athlete who switched from tennis to pickleball, has become Asia’s top-ranked player, showing his prowess by winning three titles at the inaugural PWR DUPR India Masters. He beat Dusty Boyer of the U.S. in the men’s singles final by a score of 8-11, 11-9 and 11- 8. He also won the mixed doubles title with Roos van Reek of the Netherlands and the men’s doubles title with compatriot Harsh Mehta. The tournament, held at the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association (DLTA) stadium, awarded players up to 700 ranking points and offered prize money totaling $50,000.
The Mumbai-based Bhatia considers pickleball a more exciting sport than tennis. “Both the sports have their pros and cons,” he told Times Now. “The reason why pickleball is a little more easier and exciting is because anyone can play within a few minutes to a few sessions of playing. They understand the game a little better and then they can play with each other. Whereas in tennis, you cannot do that.”
