Good Sports: Bengaluru Fans Show Appreciation for Rachin Ravindra

It’s rare that sports fans applaud achievements of opposing players, but that’s what happened when Rachin Ravindra scored a century for New Zealand at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru during a recent Test series that the Kiwis swept.
Ravindra pumped his fist and smiled as the crowd applauded, recognizing his roots in the city. His parents immigrated to New Zealand from Bengaluru in 1997 and Ravindra was born there two years later. His father, Ravindra Krishnamurthy, and many of his relatives witnessed his century from the stands.
“I know they’re very, very proud and it makes me happy that they’re able to watch a relative play in their hometown, which is very cool,” Ravindra said after the day’s play. “I’m fully Kiwi, 100% Kiwi, but it’s nice to have that Indian heritage base here in Bengaluru.”
