Good Sports: Ambanis Build Cricket Empire
With a net worth of more than $83 billion, Mukesh Ambani is not only the richest Indian, he’s also the wealthiest sports owner in the world, according to Forbes. The Ambanis are building a cricket empire, recently announcing that they had acquired the New York franchise of Major League Cricket, the six-team T20 league that will play its inaugural season this July in Grand Prairie, Texas.
The Ambanis now own franchises in five leagues, four countries, and three continents. They have two Mumbai Indians teams (Indian Premier League and Women’s Premier League), MI Cape Town (SA20), MI Emirates (ILT20), and MI New York (MLC).
