Gift of A Rifle
Actor Sonu Sood has helped many people through his charity, the Sood Foundation, but had probably not expected to give anyone a rifle. But after receiving a Twitter request from Konika Layak, a shooter from Jharkhand, he was soon helping her purchase a German rifle.
Despite winning medals at state championships and twice qualifying for nationals, Layak did not own a good rifle. She had borrowed rifles from her coach or a friend.
After received the rifle from Germany, she thanked Sood on Twitter. “Sir, my rifle is here,” she wrote in Hindi. “A wave of happiness has spread in my family and the whole village is blessing you.”
Sood responded with optimism about a sport that has brought India many medals: “India’s gold medal in the Olympics is confirmed. We just need prayers now.”
