Big Payday for Anirban Lahiri
Anirban Lahiri, a professional golfer for 14 years, is still looking for his first victory on the PGA Tour, but came extremely close at the 2022 Players Championship, finishing at 12 under par, just one stroke behind Australia’s Cameron Smith. The secondplace finish gave Lahiri, 34, the biggest payday of his career: $2.18 million.
The Players Championship, held in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, has been dubbed “the fifth major,” because it attracts top players by offering more prize money than the four majors, a whopping $20 million this year.
“Obviously, it’s a great result, great finish, but I dearly wanted to win,” Lahiri told the Indian media. “And I do look back and think of what could have been, but I’m very happy with how I played, and lots of positives to take forward.”
