Amitabh Bachchan Statue Installed in front of New Jersey Home
Amitabh Bachchan sits on a stool outside the home of Gopi and Rinku Sheth, looking dapper in a Nehru suit and loafers.
The life-size statue was unveiled recently, amid the bursting of firecrackers and blaring of the song “Rang Barse” from the movie Silsila. A large gathering of Bollywood fans witnessed Gopi Sheth’s tribute to an actor he considers “nothing less than a God.”
Sheth, an internet security engineer who also runs a website in honor of Bachchan, spent about $75,000 to have the statue made in Rajasthan and shipped to New Jersey. “Installing a statue in the U.S. comes with a lot of challenges and this was more difficult than others,” Sheth told PTI.
Bachchan, after hearing about Sheth’s plans, tried futilely to dissuade the fan, saying he didn’t deserve such treatment, according to Sheth.
“The biggest thing that inspires me about him is not only his reel life, but also the real life,” Sheth said. “He is very down to earth. He takes care of his fans. He is not like so many other stars. This is why I thought I should have his statue outside of my house.”
