‘Tragedy king’ Dilip Kumar is no more

Bollywood was plunged in gloom as the legendary actor Dilip Kumar breathed his last on July 7. He was 98. The thespian had been in and out of hospitals over the last few years with illnesses ranging from kidney ailment to pneumonia. According to some reports, he had prostate cancer. He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, the veteran actress Saira Banu.

Dilip Kumar (real name Yusuf Khan) was loved across the subcontinent, his charm transcending all boundaries. Regarded as one of the greatest actors India has ever seen and known as the ‘tragedy king’ of Bollywood, his career spanned over five iconic decades. Some of Dilip Kumar’s most memorable films are Devdas, Mughal-e-Azam, Ganga Jamuna, Naya Daur, Madhumati, Ram aur Shyam and Mashaal to name just a few.​
