Starring: Sonam Kapoor, Abhay Deol, Cyrus Sahukar
Producer: Rhea Kapoor
Director: Rajshree Ojha
Music Director: Amit Trivedi
This is a good looking movie for sure which dazzles you with its style quotient. A modern day adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel Emma, Aisha recreates the characters of 19th Century England and transports them to Delhi with panache. In fact, one of the plus points of the movie is the cleverly written supporting roles, apart from the heroine’s, of course.
Aisha Kapoor (Sonam Kapoor) is the quintessential super rich gal from South Delhi, whose pet obsession is matchmaking. In short, everyone’s business is her business. Caught in Aisha’s web are her best friend Pinky (Ira Dubey), the small town girl Shefali (Amrita Puri), the West Delhi boy Randhir (Cyrus Sahukar) and the hunk Dhruv (Arunoday Singh).
But there is someone who is forever censuring Aisha for meddling in other people’s affairs and telling her to mind her own business—her childhood buddy, Arjun Burman (Abhay Deol). But does his opinion really matter? Are marriages made in heaven? Eternal questions, these.
Sonam breathes life into her sassy character, as do the other girls. A talented bunch, indeed. But if Aisha is a chick flick, the boys aren’t far behind, either. Leading the pack is Abhay Deol who plays Austen’s Mr. Knightley with an irresistable charm that is all his own. You wish he’d been given more footage, though. The rest of the boys pitch in fine performances, too. But the most adorable of the men surely is Aisha’s dad played by veteran M. K. Raina.
A superb musical score by Amit Trivedi enhances the overall appeal of the movie. So go watch Aisha. You may find it flippant, but might just fall for its looks.
