This is the first so-called biggie after a lull. What’s more, after the stupendous success of Singh Is Kinng and Welcome, you have great expectations from the Akshay Kumar-Anees Bazmee jodi, but after watching Thank You, all you can say is ‘thank you’ to Akshay Kumar and Irrfan Khan for salvaging this film. Though heavily inspired by No Entry, Bazmee’s own earlier comic caper, Thank you is no patch on it.
The film revolves around a trio of philandering husbands—Raj, Yogi and Vikram—who are ‘happily’ married because the wives are blissfully ignorant about their husbands’ extra-marital activities. Trouble starts when Raj’s (Bobby Deol’s) wife, Sanjana (Sonam Kapoor), hires a suave detective-cum-marriage therapist, Kishan (Akshay Kumar), to keep a watch on Raj after she begins suspecting him. Kishan’s overwhelming attraction for Sanjana compounds the situation and thus starts a cat ‘n’ mouse game, which should ideally have left you hooked and in splits—but doesn’t.
While the first hour is enjoyable enough, it is the second hour that bores you because of the shoddy writing and screenplay. Jokes fall flat and situations that the husbands land in are from funny. Thank God for Akshay and Irrfan who, with their comic timing, manage to bring a smile to your face.
Bobby Deol mostly looks dour-faced and angry and Sunil Shetty is okay. Sonam looks terribly out of sync, Celina is hardly there in the movie, and Rimi tries her best to do justice to her role. Mallika Sherawat sizzles in the Razia track.
