MOVIE REVIEW: Ek Tha Tiger
Starring: Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, Ranvir Shorey
Producer: Aditya Chopra
Director: Kabir Khan
Music Director: Pritam
Ek Tha Tiger is a welcome change
from Salman Khan’s last two releases, Ready and Bodyguard,
which were unabashed, over-indulgent one-man shows. At
least, Kabir Khan’s movie has some semblance of a plot and
Salman makes an effort to play a character and not himself.
RAW agent Tiger (Salman Khan) is packed off to Dublin on a special assignment. He has to keep an eye on a suspect missile scientist, but he falls in love with the old man’s housekeeper Zoya (Katrina Kaif). And so begins their love story, which is quite sweet. The humor is clean and lighthearted and it all seems quite effortless−till it turns out that Zoya, too, is an undercover agent. The pace slows down a bit when the protagonists have to choose between love and duty.
Salman jumps wholeheartedly into the action sequences, which are terrific, but looks a little lost in the dramatic scenes. Katrina gets to do some great action herself and their onscreen chemistry looks every bit convincing, though there’s hardly any passion. Ranvir Shorey as Salman’s colleague lends good support, as does Girish Karnad.
Cinematographer Aseem Mishra captures the exotic locales lovingly as he takes us through Cuba, Ireland, Iraq, Turkey, and other countries.
So go and watch this good-looking love story set in the backdrop of an espionage thriller. You will not find it unwatchable, despite its flaws. Just don’t have too many expectations.
