MOVIE REVIEW
Starring: Ayushmann Khurrana, Annu Kapoor, Yami Gautam
Producer: John Abraham
Director: Shoojit Sircar
Music Directors: Abhishek-Akshay
John Abraham makes a dream debut as producer with a fi lm that is truly different, tackling the sensitive and ‘taboo’ subject of sperm donation in a delightfully humorous and engaging manner, without a hint of visual or verbal vulgarity—yet it drives home the point without getting preachy. Of course, it helps that John has the very talented duo of Shoojit Sircar and Juhi Chaturvedi as the director and writer of this surprise entertainer of the year.
Vicky Donor wouldn’t have been what it is if it weren’t for newbie Ayushmann Khurrana, the actor who plays Vicky to perfection. With his livewire energy and spontaneity, the guy is an absolute natural on screen and certainly the discovery of the year. The veteran Annu ‘Dr. Chaddha’ Kapoor returns with a bang to the silver screen after a hiatus. As the ‘sperm craving’ fertility specialist, he is absolutely brilliant and brings the house down with his funny lines.
Debutante Yami Gautam is both pretty and talented. Together, she and Ayushmann share some great onscreen chemistry in the romantic track. The supporting cast are wonderful too, especially Vicky’s mom and grandmom, played by Dolly Ahluwalia and Kamlesh Gill.
The music is peppy and totally in sync with the mood of the movie.
Don’t miss this sparkling comedy, which has its poignant moments, too.
