MOVIE REVIEW: Zara Hatke Zara Bachke
Zara Hatke Zara Bachke
Starring: Vicky Kaushal. Sara Ali Khan, Rakesh Bedi
Director: Laxman Uttekar
Music Directors: Sachin-Jigar
The undeniable onscreen chemistry between the unlikely pair of Vicky Kaushal and Sara Ali Khan is the highlight of this romantic comedy about a young married couple’s need for privacy and their quest for a home of their own. With a premise like that, the film was bound to strike a chord with the masses. So all its flaws notwithstanding—a farfetched storyline, a melodramatic climax, crass cross-cultural humor, actors who ham away—the film is worth watching once.
The much in love Kapil Dubey (Vicky Kaushal) and Soumya Chawla Dubey (Sara Ali Khan) decide to fake a divorce to be eligible to buy a house under the women’s quota of a government scheme. Sounds bizarre? Well, the plan is that once the flat is allotted, they will get married again! But that’s the beginning of a comedy of errors, with loads of confusion, even emotional turmoil.
Vicky slips easily into the part of a small-town miserly guy who is a supportive husband and a caring family person—but frankly, such movies feel like a waste of his talent. And though Sara, who tries hard to pass off as a middle-class bahu or even as a spitfire Punjabi girl, is earnest, the pretty actress does need to work on her histrionic abilities.Sachin-Jigar’s songs are pretty catchy and the cinematography captures the small-town vibe of Indore in Madhya Pradesh well.
