MOVIE REVIEW: Srikanth
Srikanth

Srikanth tells you the difference between sight and vision through its incredible true story of Srikanth Bolla, the first international blind student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, who goes on to become one of India’s leading industrialists. It is no doubt a worthy subject for a biopic but it tries to squeeze the lifetime of a person in just a little over two hours, making the movie feel rushed and episodic and, therefore, emotionally underwhelming.
It is Rajkummar Rao’s consummate performance as the visually impaired hero—who refuses to let his circumstances define his dreams—that makes up for the flaws in the script and average direction. It obviously isn’t easy for the actor to pass himself off as a teenager but he plays Srikanth with such conviction and sincerity that you cannot but marvel.
Southern star Jyothika is superbly restrained as Srikanth’s teacher, Devika, who stands by him like a rock, and there’s the ever-reliable Sharad Kelkar playing Ravi, the hero’s friend who never turns his back on Srikanth even when the latter becomes too full of himself. Alaya F is charming and adds a bit of sparkle to the film as Swathi, the young woman fascinated by this guy. In a special cameo is Jameel Khan as Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, who has some really heartwarming moments with Srikanth.
