MOVIE REVIEW: Sikandar Ka Muqaddar
Sikandar Ka Muqaddar
Starring: Jimmy Shergill, Avinash Tiwary, Tamannaah Bhatia
Director: Neeraj Pandey
Music Director: Payal Dev
Sikandar Ka Muqaddar is a thriller written and directed by Neeraj Pandey, but disappointingly, it feels like a betrayal of his own legacy. The razor-sharp intensity that defined his earlier works is missing in his latest offering, although it does make for a reasonably engrossing watch.
After a diamond heist goes unsolved, a dogged cop Jaswinder Singh’s (Jimmy Shergill) fixation on his prime suspect, Sikandar Sharma (Avinash Tiwary), turns into an all-consuming obsession, ruining the lives of all those involved. After an intriguing beginning, the movie loses steam somewhat with the constant back and forth between the past and the present, and the prolonged cat and mouse game between Singh and Sikandar.
The two talented leading men skillfully carry the film on their able shoulders but are let down by the sluggish pace at some places and a predictable script, barring a few plot twists that you don't see coming. Tamannaah Bhatia is impressive as a single mother who becomes inadvertently entangled in the investigation. Her character Kamini Singh adds emotional depth to the narrative. The supremely talented Divya Dutta is wasted in a nondescript role.
You can watch Sikandar Ka Muqaddar on Netflix. Just don't expect it to be as riveting as A Wednesday or Special 26.
