This modern take on the original 1978 Sanjeev Kumar-starrer Pati Patni Aur Woh sparkles with humor and witty one-liners. So all its shortcomings notwithstanding, at least you are assured plenty of laughs. In any case, how much depth can you expect from a comedy about a married man cheating on his wife?
A Public Works Department engineer in Kanpur, Chintu Tyagi (Kartik Aaryan) decides to spice up his humdrum life after three years of marriage with the feisty Vedika (Bhumi Pednekar). The girl who catches his fancy is Tapasya (Ananya Panday), a chic Delhi girl who comes to Kanpur looking for a location for her new designer boutique. The gauche Chintu lies to Tapasya about his wife having an affair, which kicks off a comedy of errors.
Kartik Aaryan once again plays what he’s best at—the guy next door with a talent for monologues. Aparshakti Khurrana is terrific as the hero’s best friend Faheem Rizvi. Watch out also for Shubham Kumar, playing Vedika’s admirer Rakesh Yadav. Ananya Panday is pretty enough but bland. What’s worse, the Kartik-Ananya dalliance lacks chemistry. It is Bhumi Pednekar’s spirited performance as the patni which actually lifts the movie a notch above. In fact, it is refreshing to see both the women holding their own.
Watch out for two special appearances and a throwback to the original film.
