MOVIE REVIEW : Ludo
Ludo
Starring: Abhishek Bachchan, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sanya Malhotra, Rajkummar Rao, Fatima Sana Shaikh
Director: Anurag Basu
Music directors: Pritam
Remember the 2007 film Life in a… Metro with its multiple story format? Well, director Anurag Basu returns to this format in his latest offering, a goofy take on love and loss, which effectively uses the popular game of Ludo as a metaphor.
There are four diverse, intersecting narratives which are full of outlandish humor and color. But when so much is happening, is it any wonder that the writing is uneven in parts and some twists seem forced.
The two characters who stand out in this frenzied film are Alloo and Pinky, played by the talented Rajkummar Rao and Fatima Sana Shaikh. Aditya Roy Kapur has some nice moments as Akash, the ventriloquist, and Abhishek Bachchan does a fine job of fleshing out Bittu, a brooding misfit. He might remind you of Lallan Singh, the character he played in Yuva. Every time you think Pankaj Tripathi might be getting typecast as a don, the actor springs a surprise and infuses something new in his portrayal.
Notwithstanding its shortcomings, this tragicomedy action movie with a picaresque quality leaves you with a smile on your face. And that, in these difficult times, is a great plus point.
The movie Ludo is available on Netflix.
