MOVIE REVIEW: Lootcase
Lootcase
Starring: Kunal Khemu, Rasika Dugal, Ranvir Shorey
Director: Rajesh Krishnan
Music directors: Rohan-Vinayak, Amar Mangrulkar
Although Lootcase isn’t the perfect crime caper that it sets out to be—it’s overstretched and loses steam much before the end—the hilarious moments that it is peppered with in the first hour do bring a smile on your face. And in these stressful times, that’s a lot to be grateful for!
At the center of the plot is an abandoned suitcase stacked with cash that a printing press operator Nandan Kumar (Kunal Khemu) stumbles upon while returning home at night. Oblivious of the fact that a corrupt politician, some gangsters, and a trigger-happy cop are in hot pursuit of the ill-gotten wealth, Nandan decides to keep the suitcase, but where does he hide those ten crore rupees? And how does he spend so much money?
The cast is in crackling form. Kunal Khemu is absolutely relatable as the common man and his scenes with his wife Lata (the very talented Rasika Dugal) are terrific. Gajraj Rao as the wily politician, Ranvir Shorey as the hot-headed police officer, and the inimitable Vijay Raaz as the don obsessed with National Geographic are first rate, and not surprisingly so. The other smaller characters also pitch in with fantastic performances.
Finally, Lootcase sends out a nice message worth taking note of: Be careful what you wish for, because once you do get it, you may not know what to do with it!
Lootcase is streaming on Disney Plus Hotstar.
