MOVIE REVIEW: Kill

Kill

Starring: Lakshya, Raghav Juyal, Tanya Maniktala

Producers:  Karan Johar, Guneet Monga

Director: Nikhil Nagesh Bhat

Pushing the boundaries of violence beyond what a Bollywood action film has ever imagined, Kill is definitely not for the faint of heart. Set almost entirely in a confined space—the coaches of a moving train—this thriller doesn’t give you a breather. Gory action happens at lightning pace for almost two hours.

When a gang of knife-wielding desperadoes led by the sadistic Fani (Raghav Juyal) hijacks a Delhi-bound train, NSG commando Captain Amrit Rathod (Lakshya) and his fellow commando Vishesh Atwal (Abhishek Chauhan), who have boarded the train secretly, swing into action to play saviors. Traveling in the train is also Amrit’s ladylove Tulika Singh (Tanya Maniktala). Bloodcurdling mayhem follows a particularly gruesome murder when an enraged Amrit goes on the rampage, blurring the lines between hero and anti-hero.

Kill is powered by the performances of its two leading men. Lakshya makes an impressive screen debut as the mild mannered, love-struck soldier who turns into a killing machine. The casting of dancer-choreographer Raghav Juyal as the psychotic antagonist is interesting—and the talented guy steals the show with his outstanding act played with chilling relish.

Exceptional action choreography (by Se-Yeong Oh of Snowpiercer fame), taut editing, and a brilliant set and sound design combine to make Kill an engaging movie, but only if one can bear to watch so much violence on screen.

Another apt title for the film could have been Overkill!
