Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 marks Vidya Balan’s return to the hit franchise after her stellar performance as Manjulika in 2007, but this time she has another diva for company. Yes, Madhuri Dixit, who shows up on screen just before the interval, has a special appearance in the horror comedy. The two talented actresses even dance together but the sequence is hardly as riveting as the dance-off between Madhuri and Aishwarya Rai in Devdas.
In fact, that’s true of everything about this third instalment. The jokes sometimes don’t land, barring a few killer lines, and the scares aren’t terrifying enough. But what does catch you by surprise is the climactic twist, which is the movie’s biggest plus. You just don’t see it coming.
Kartik Aaryan returns as the fake ghostbuster Ruhaan or Rooh Baba, as he is popularly known among his gullible clientele. The actor does it all—romance, comedy, dance—but the disjointed screenplay lets him down. The talented Triptii Dimri looks lovely but is massively underutilized.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 has an array of terrific comic actors—Vijay Raaz, Rajesh Sharma, Rajpal Yadav, Vijay Mishra, and Ashwini Kalsekar—who provide Kartik all the support he needs when the film begins to flag. So thank God for them!
