X’mas Cheer Takes Over At GAMA Cultural Fest
The Greater Atlanta Malayalee Association (GAMA) celebrated Christmas with a cultural extravaganza on December 13, at Berkmar High School in Lilburn. Members of the community came out in large numbers and enjoyed an evening of fun, music, entertainment and great food.
The evening started with a sumptuous Christmas dinner. The auditorium at Berkmar High School was filled to capacity when the entertainment activities started at 7:30 pm. The stage programs began with a tastefully directed tableau-dance sequence depicting the ?Nativity Scene' that aptly captured the spirit of Christmas.
Rev.Fr. Kurian Kariackal delivered his Christmas message to the over 400 strong community members assembled at the auditorium. This was followed by a variety entertainment program comprising songs and dances by the young and aspiring artists in the community. The program also included Christmas carols by the Mar Thoma Church Choir Group. There was a very pleasing mix of dances ranging from the classical to popular cinema; from break dance to the Bhangra, all performed by young boys and girls.
Highlights of the evening included songs by Anjana Shajan, a diya dance by Sheeba Varghese and group and an excellent rendering of instrumental music by Indus Rhythm. Sathish Menon also enriched the evening with his melody and wonderful voice. Sunil Nair and Jenny Thomas, the emcees for the show were refreshing, and did their job well.
The celebrations came to a close after new office bearers for the year 2004 were selected.
