Shyam Reddy’s Run For Secretary Of State Builds Up Momentum
Jul. 11, 2005 ? ATLANTA ? Georgia's new brand of Southern Democrat Shyam Reddy filed his first finance disclosure report for Georgia Secretary of State. As a first-time candidate, Reddy reported more than $140,000 in contributions and net cash on-hand ? a record for a non-incumbent democratic contender in a non-election year.
Facing formidable competition from Republicans such as former Georgia Senate Majority Leader Bill Stephens, and Karen Handle, Fulton County Commissioner Chair, Reddy was nevertheless quite optimistic about his campaign. In an email communication with Khabar, Reddy cited a recent front-page feature on him in the Atlanta Business Chronicle. Elsewhere, it has also been pointed out that he had received more press coverage than any other candidate at the time.
Positioning himself as representing a "New Brand of Southern Democrat" ? one who is fiscally conservative and socially responsible, has helped Reddy generate a support base of Democrats, Republicans and Independents. He wants to build upon the success of Cathy Cox, taking Georgia to the next level of achievement in Election Reform, Business Formation, and Investor Protection.
