Rev. Melanie Conner was very happy to have members of our Hindu community participating this year. The event has been held for seven years, and this year, SEWA and ISKCON contributed over 480 bags, each with five pieces of fruit and some candy canes.
One of the rewarding things about this event was the level of interest in our Hindu culture expressed by many people there. Several received Japa chanting beads and numerous books on Vedic philosophy, including the Bhagavad Gita from ISKCON. SEWA believes that the time is ripe for sharing our wonderful culture and religion with a broader audience here in the Atlanta area. ISKCON Atlanta expressed interest in joining forces for future events where we can showcase our culture and traditions, and SEWA International is planning to discuss ideas for such activities with other community service organizations as well.
SEWA’s holiday spirit: fruit bags for kids
February 2011
“Serving the human being is serving God” ("Nar Seva is
Narayan Seva") is the motto of SEWA International. So on this past December 4,
SEWA volunteers went out to make the holidays brighter for some children whose
families needed a little help. Along with ISCKON Atlanta, SEWA volunteers
participated in the Children’s Holiday Celebration at the First Baptist Church
of East Point, organized by Lordstrom in partnership with Zion Hill Community
Development Corporation. Rev. Melanie Conner was very happy to have members of our Hindu community participating this year. The event has been held for seven years, and this year, SEWA and ISKCON contributed over 480 bags, each with five pieces of fruit and some candy canes.
