Sankara Nethralaya organizes meet n greet event
Sankara Nethralaya, a nonprofit charity organization that provides ophthalmic care throughout India, held a meet ‘n greet for Padma Bhushan awardee and chairman of Shantha Biotechnics Limited, Dr. K.I. Varaprasad Reddy, organized by its U.S. team in Atlanta on May 6, 2023.

The event started with jyoti prajwalan, the lighting of the traditional lamp, by chief guest Dr. Reddy along with his wife Vasanta Reddy, donor Dr. Govinda Visvesvara, film director VN Aditya, president Bala Reddy Indurti, and the core Sankara Nethralaya team. After this ceremony, local artists from Nataraja Natyanjali, Sri Dutt Raaga Dance Academy, Six Strings, and other singers enthralled the audience with their classical dances and singing.
Indurti announced Dr. Varaprasad Reddy as Brand Ambassador for Sankara Nethralaya and all attendees responded with a huge applause. Getting unconditional support for this noble cause from Dr. Reddy was encouraging for all the trustees and volunteers.
Dr. Reddy appreciated the efforts of Sankara Nethralaya USA team in eradicating preventable blindness in India. He also praised the organization for receiving four stars from Charity Navigator and maintaining the status for the past several years.
Dr. Visvesvara offered to sponsor a floor in the hospital in memory of his parents. Aditya offered to spread the word about the new Mobile Eye Surgical Unit in Hyderabad. Dr. Madhuri Namuduri conveyed Acharya Ji’s, founder of Sankara Nethralaya USA, message to the audience.
Indurti was conferred the Sankara Ratna award for leading from the front in expanding the footprint of the organization throughout the U.S. and for his help in expanding the Adopt-A-Village program. The vice president, Moorthy Rekapalli, coordinated with volunteers and community leaders to make the program a success with more than 300 attendees at Sankranti in Atlanta.
