The Raksha Women’s Empowerment Art Show was held on March 10, 2018 in honor of International Women’s Day. The idea came when Raksha advocates Anjali Guntur and Jaushin Khaleque began discussing the artistic talents in many Raksha clients. They, along with Outreach Coordinator and artist Tasnim Mosabber, then curated the art show to raise awareness about women’s issues and women’s rights, and to give local artists a platform. “Women’s empowerment” was chosen as the theme in order to honor the struggles and triumphs of women and girls.

This first art show hosted by Raksha showcased 21 artists and 35 pieces. South Asian artists were Tasnim Mosabber, Shachi Srivastava, Deepa Prabhu, Vinod Sharma, Dinesh Sharma, Sadhana Windlass, Sushobhan Sarker, and Jaushin Khaleque.

The art show had more than 100 attendees and received an overwhelmingly positive response from the community. Besides raising awareness about issues, it allowed artists to network with the local community. Sponsors were local businesses: Mezcalito’s Cocina, Mediterranean Bakery, HOBI Studios, and Digital Arts Studio.
