Pujari Group Tennis Tournament a Smashing Success
Pujari Group, the premier non-profit organization representing the Bengali community in Georgia, organized its first-ever one-day doubles tennis tournament on Saturday, May 31st. The venue was the tennis courts at the Kingsgate subdivision in Woodstock. The championship was a grand success with 16 doubles teams or 32 players watching and cheering the players. The organizers arranged for the venue, provided soft drinks, and match balls for the players. Cobb Mortgage was the sponsor for the tournament.
The group winners are as follows:
Group A:
Subhojit Roy and Mukesh Achtani
Group B:
Swapan Mondol and Srinivas Yamujala
Group C:
Rajeev Kumar and Raghu Pani
Group D:
Soumen Ghosh and Joydeb Majumdar
In the much-anticipated final, Rajeev and Raghu were merciless as they drubbed Swapan and Srinivas 6-1, 6-0. Although the losing team played a fairly good game of tennis, Rajeev and Raghu were clearly a cut above the rest. Raghu's blistering serves and Rajeev's sense of positioning were a treat to watch. Mr. Gauranga Banik of Cobb Mortgage presented the trophies to the winners. All in all, it was a fun day for the South Asian community, giving a good excuse to soak in the glorious weather, interact with friends, and last but not least, enjoy the magnificent sport of tennis. Please stay posted for the bigger and better version of this tournament slated for Fall, 2003. For pictures and details, please visit the Pujari Group website at www.pujari-atlanta.org.
