Pujari holds Baishakhi Mela
On April 15, Pujari, a nonprofit organization for Bengalis in the Greater Atlanta area, held the Baishakhi Mela for the first since its establishment in 1986.
On the Baishakhi Mela day, all roads led to Hendricks Middle School in Cumming. The event was inaugurated with a sublime rendition of “Anondoloke Mongolaloke” followed by “Aguner Poroshmoni” performed by Piya Sengupta and her team of 40 singers.
Many food delicacies were laid out and ghughni, paratha, fuchka, along with sondesh, were all major hits that drew in the crowd.

Not to be left behind, the Youth Committee caused their own sensation by raising a record amount of funds through their lemonade stand and face painting. The photo booth was a pleasant addition as it drew scores of visitors for a photo clicking opportunity. There were numerous vendors selling their wares at the venue. At the end of the day, the program had something for everybody.
Under the stewardship of Richa Sarkar, President of Pujari, and with the support of engaging volunteers and participating members, Baishakhi Mela was a momentous occasion for all Pujari members.
The Pujari team felt that their countless hours spent in capacity planning and decision making were all vindicated as the event provided a great platform for members, visitors, and vendors. The programs, the funds, the food are all outward flourishes while the real soul of the event was to bring people closer to celebrate the joyous occasion of Baishakhi.
