Prestigious Award for Dr Jagdish Sheth
Dr. Jagdish N. Sheth is a Professor of Marketing at the Goizueta Business School at Emory University. A celebrated academician and author, he is also an advisor to many leading companies like AT & T and Bell South. The American Marketing Association recently conferred Dr. Seth with two prestigious awards.
In May this year Dr. Seth learnt that he was to receive the Richard D. Irwin Award for distinguished marketing educator. Two months later he was informed about the Charles Coolidge Parlin Award (to be conferred on September 24) making him the only individual to receive both awards in the same year. When Khabar asked Dr. Seth how it felt as a South Asian to garner such accolades, he responded, "It is a great honor to have received these awards. America is perhaps the only country that maximizes the potential of people from different countries and recognizes their efforts. The fact that I am a South Asian makes me a role model, an inspiration, for other Indians."
Dr. Seth moved to the US in 1961 and has been teaching for the past 41 years. Prior to relocating to Atlanta in 1991, he taught at the University of Southern California, University of Illinois, Columbia University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In the course of his teaching career he has authored over 200 books and research papers. The Theory of Buyer Behavior (1969) is a classic in the marketing arena.
