One of Sony TV's most popular show, "Boogie Woogie" which has had an exceptional run since eight years, and is still going on full steam, paid Atlanta a visit as a part of its North American auditions called Boogie Woogie Chalo America.
The audition, held at Earthlink Live on November 8th was another feather in the cap of Mark Premji Promotions, which was responsible for providing this widely recognized platform for the local talent. Promoted as a ticketed show, the audition was judged by: Jayshree Dharamrup of Everest Travels; Alok Gupta, a dance aficionado since age 3; Raju Kotak of Little India; Parthiv Parekh of Khabar Magazine; Kumud Savla of Nritya Natya Kala Bharti; Dina Sheth of Kruti Dance Academy. The Grand Marshall was Subash Razdan of Namaste Bombay.
To those few who attended, it was nothing short of a revelation ? that Atlanta can more than hold its own when it comes to young talent. Mr. M. K. Srinivasan who was representing Sony TV said he was "bowled over" by the Atlanta performers. According to him, the Atlanta audition was a step above even some of the larger cities such as New York and Chicago.
Both the Juniors (Age 5 to 15) and Seniors (16 to 21) groups exhibited intense competition. The judges and audience alike felt it was very tough to select just one winner from each group. Grand Marshal Subash Razdan and show promoter Mark Premji both rightly expressed that each and every of the 10 contestants in each group was indeed a winner. From the naturally gifted to the classically trained, the dance contestants were a sight to behold.
Indeed, Shivani Gandhi, the winner of the Juniors contest was a model of poise and classical talent; while Shezi Sardar, winner of the Seniors contest, was a forceful package of style, grace, confidence, and masterful new age moves ? all summing up to pulsating entertainment. With his sculpted looks and Michael Jackson moves he could well be a bollywood star to give Salman Khan a run for his money.
Both winners will go on to represent Atlanta in the Boogie Woogie Chalo America finals to be held on January 3rd in New York City. This program will be telecast live on Sony Entertainment Television, SET.
