Paint It Gold for Vedika, a child being treated for cancer in Mumbai
(Left) A fun family project for a cause: painting to help a cancer patient and her family.
The second annual Paint It Gold event, held in Alpharetta, Georgia on Sunday November 17, 2019 was again a huge success. The event was organized by the Access Life America team, to provide people the opportunity to contribute towards a cause (childhood cancer) while having fun!
One interesting thing about this unique event was that age was no bar: there were grandmas, aunts, moms, dads, and kids all sitting down together as groups and participating in a focused paint activity. The theme was ‘Betta,’ the fighter fish. Several variations on the theme were shown as examples that participants could choose to paint, and the instructor volunteers led them step by step to finish the paintings. This was in a very relaxed atmosphere and there was no stress of competitiveness, just two hours of solid fun! The happiness, smiles, selfies, and the sense of accomplishment that followed was priceless.
Proceeds from the event benefited a girl named Vedika in the Access Life America organization. She has been diagnosed with B-lymphoblastic leukemia. She and her family have been staying at the Bandra center (Mumbai) since April 24, 2019. Every day, thousands of families from little towns, villages, and remote corners of India bring their children to Mumbai with a hope that someone will help resolve the most instrumental problem of their lives—“cancer.” Instead they find another problem—“No place to stay.” Many end up on the foot path or paying dearly for unhygienic accommodations. Access Life America is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization helping these children and their families by providing hygienic accommodation in their battle against cancer.
