Mahashivratri Celebrated By Hundreds
Shiv Mandir of Atlanta celebrated Mahashivratri on Tuesday, March 8th, 2005 with religious fervour. The Mandir Committee organized a group pooja at the Impact Center in Global Mall, which was attended by over 500 devotees
The group pooja, conducted by Acharya Ved P. Joshi (Mandir's Priest), started at 7:30 pm after a brief welcome message from Mr. PuspRaj Verma. The main yajman for pooja were Mrs. and Mr. Rajiv Goswami and Mrs. and Mr. Shiv Aggarwal. After the pooja, Mr. Ramjee Pathak informed the community about Shiv Mandir's land acquisition, the first major milestone. Mr. Ajeet Das, President of Shiv Mandir, updated the community about Shiv Mandir's short and long term goals and urged the community to support the temple. The event's honorary guest, Mr. Subhash Razdan, congratulated Shiv Mandir's committee and pledged to continue his support through his TV network. Shiv Aarti and Shiv Bhajan followed by a vote of thanks by Mr. Alok Gupta concluded the program and Maha Prasad was served to all devotees.
After the group pooja, Char Prahar pooja was conducted, which started at 10 p.m. and went on all night. The tireless spirit and dedication of the volunteers, who worked day and night in the days prior to and on the day itself, made this program possible.
Shiv Mandir of Atlanta has acquired over eleven acres of land on Peachtree Industrial Blvd. located 4 miles north of McGennis Ferry Road. The new Mandir will have all Hindu deities with Lord Shiv as the main deity and will also serve as a Hindu Cultural Center, where programs for children, seniors and youth can be offered.
