Kutchi Community Celebrates Navratri
Kutch Samaj of America (KSA), an Atlanta-based non-profit organization, held its second annual Navratri celebrations last month. A four-day Navratri Dandiaraas was held in Global Mall, which was followed each day by an Ashtami Havan, attended by almost 400 people everyday. Ramzaat, the orchestra, provided live music for the event.
KSA considers itself one of the first organizations of its kind that brings all people of Kutch under one roof. The organization's stated mission is to "help promote interest of people [in a] unified voice" in the U.S.
Prominent members of the local Kutchi community felt the need to have an organization that would provide a platform for the social, cultural, political and economic aspirations and needs of Kutchis. The organization today is headed by Nitin Shah, a former chairman of Asian American Hotel Owners, while Kumud Savla is the president. Other functionaries include Sunny Thakker, Manoj Bhatia, Jayu Momaya and Jayesh Udeshi.
