Karnataka Day Celebrated by Kannada Koota
Nrupathunga Kannada Koota celebrated the 50th anniversary of the formation of the Karnataka State (Suvarna Karnataka), on November 18th 2006 at The Hindu Temple of Atlanta auditorium. The celebration began with an impromptu speech competition. Enthusiastic participants were greeted with cheers.
The entertainment program started with an invocation followed by the American national anthem. Nearly 75 children from ages 3 to 14 gave a splendid performance. Kids danced to the rhythms from popular movies and the late Dr Rajkumar's patriotic song evoked feelings of love for Karnataka.
Flawless Kuchpudi by Smt. Suprabha was watched with keen interest. Singing to the tunes of Kannada Aksharamale (alphabets) by the students of Kannada language class received many accolades. Their pronounciation while singing Kannada songs was commendable.
Smt.Vanishree, Shobha, Gayithri, Ramya, Chitra, Bharathi, Vathsala and Sri. Venkatesh choreographed and directed all the entertainment programs. Smt. Vydehi, Mangala and Rohini organized the event and sprinkled, during the introductions, the rich culture, heritage and history of Kannada language and Karnataka alluding to the great luminaries, milestones and beauty of each of the 27 districts in Karnataka State.
Dr. H. N. Ramaswamy recognized the immense service rendered by selfless volunteers such as Anand Rajeurs and Biligere Venkatesh. Sri. Suresh of Udipi Restaurant provided dinner at a non-profit rate.
The program concluded with Indian national anthem and prize distribution. This event indeed showcased all aspects of Karnataka from the culture, to arts to cuisine.
