IDRF Singing Contest Raises Funds For School Foundation
India Development & Relief Fund Inc. (IDRF), Atlanta Chapter, organized its first singing competition called Dhun at the Meadow Creek High School in Norcross on January 17. Devoted singers from the Atlanta area participated in this competition. It was a very successful event for IDRF, a distinctive charitable organization.
The competition was divided into multiple levels, with different rounds like classical, pop, solo, duet and judge's choice. Prestigious singing gurus like Brij Singh, Kadambari Adesh, Sanjay Patel and Rashmi Chaudhry formed the judges' panel.
Participants sung songs of the legends of Indian music like Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosale, Kishore Kumar, Mohammed Rafi and Mukesh. More than 350 music lovers witnessed this enthusiastic event. The crowd was literally on its feet when Azim, one of the participants, sung ?Dardi Rab Rab'.
The winners were Rahki Banerjee, Mahua Mukherjee, Subra and Pankaj Bhargava. In addition to merchandise prizes, the winners were awarded with trophies sponsored by AmarJawanJyoti. It's very uncommon to have an Indian event without food! Amruta Restaurant located in Norcross, served the people with delicious food. The revenue generated by them was donated to IDRF.
IDRF raised $10,000 from this event through souvenir advertisements, entry fees and donations. Proceeds from this event will be sent to the Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation, a charitable trust that initiates, supports, and runs non-formal one-teacher schools (popularly known as Ekal Vidyalayas) all over India.
