IACA Celebrates India’s Republic Day
The India American Cultural Association (IACA) celebrated Indian Republic Day at its premises in Smyrna on January 25. Over 200 people turned up for the event in spite of bad weather.
The afternoon began with a dual flag hoisting ceremony. IACA executive vice president Sunil Sehgal and IACA chairman of the board Tushar Sanghvi honored the Indian and US flags respectively to the post.
A patriotic cultural program followed at the IACA auditorium afterwards. Several Atlanta associations joined hands for the program. The over one-hour program that included dance and music revolving around patriotic themes, was put together by Kala Subramaniam.
The cultural program was preceded by a welcome speech by Sanghvi, who stressed on the importance of the event. At the end of the afternoon celebrations, Sehgal proposed the vote of thanks. He urged the community to become members of the IACA, and participate more in its activities.
The afternoon ended with refreshments sponsored by Amrutha Restaurant.
The Republic Day celebration was organized by IACA team members Sunil Sehgal, Upendra Bhatt, Sita Vallurupalli and Kala Subramaniam. Other team members also helped in the efforts.
IACA has been celebrating the Indian Republic Day with twin objectives- to celebrate what is a national event back in India, in spite of being so far from home, and to expose the younger generation to Indian culture.
