Global Mela To Be Held In May
The Global Mall will be venue for a festival of India called Global Mela on May 7, 8 and 9. Touted as the largest celebration of Indian culture, the Global Mela is being hosted in Atlanta by Global Mall's American Management Services. The mela is being organized by United Cultures Inc in several cities of the US beginning this spring.
At a community briefing held at the Impact Conference Center on March 12, Shiv Aggarwal of Global Mall, and United Culture's Kirit Udeshi and Mihir Patel shared their vision and plans for the forthcoming fair, with heads of various local organizations.
"The festival is an effort at breaking down the barriers that ethnic minorities face, and sharing out culture outside our community," said Udeshi. "We are trying to be one big happy Indian family," added Patel.
As part of this endeavor, the Global Mela will showcase foods from all around India, dances from different regions and dance lessons, exhibits from various community organizations, yoga and meditation sessions, games, activities and entertainment for children and shopping. There will also be live entertainment with raas, garba and bhangra including performances by the Bombay raas-garba group ?Beat 16'.
"The Global Mela is being held on Mother's Day (May 9) as a tribute to all mothers," said Aggarwal. All mothers will be honored at the mela on May 9.
The Atlanta mela is second in a series of three events. ?The celebration of all things Indian' begins on April 9 at Germantown, Maryland.
