GATeS celebrates International Yoga Day
On June 20, 2021, Greater Atlanta Telangana Society(GATeS) organized the “108 Surya Namaskars” Yoga event at Sharan Park Community Hall in Cumming. The event was organized to celebrate the International Yoga Day and to bring awareness to the people of Atlanta about benefits of Yoga. People from other cities and countries joined the event virtually to learn and enjoy the benefits Yoga.
GATeS organization has been conducting the virtual Yoga sessions every weekend for almost three months to educate the importance of Yoga and “Surya Namaskars” under the able guidance of enthusiastic and energetic yoga guru Praveen Maripelly from Yoganikethan, India.
Maripelly has performed 108 Surya Namaskar on 13 mountains in 7 countries, including on top of the Everest base camp mountain at 6150 meters height in subzero temperatures.
At Sharon Park Community Center, more than 50 enthusiastic people participated in the event. They expressed their gratitude and cheerfulness to do 108 Surya Namaskars which they thought they may not be able to complete, but together they could.
GATes President Kishan Tallapally, Vice President Sunil Gotoor, Secretary Janardhan Pannela, along with Board of Directors (BOD) members Naveen Battini and Anitha Nellutla, coordinated the event.
