First IACA Talent Show hosted virtually
As part of its yearlong golden jubilee celebration, India American Cultural Association (IACA) recently hosted IACA Talent Show (ITS). Due to the pandemic, this first ITS was held virtually on April 9 and 11. Scores of contestants had the opportunity to showcase their talents from the comfort of their home. With three performances and over 80 participants via Zoom, the Talent Show turned out to be full of fun, excitement, and fascination.
[LEft] Vaishnavi Manchala was the winner in dance in Age Group A.
ITS also featured a cash award from IACA along with other gifts for the winners to encourage and promote young talent in the community. ITS was held in four age groups: Pre-school & Elementary, Middle School, High School, and College (up to second year of college). The show had three stages. In Round One, participants
entered in the audition process by submitting a one-minute-long video of their talent in the selected category of their choice. ITS judges shortlisted entries based on quality of talent and performance. In Round Two (Semi Finals), shortlisted contestants performed their talent for a minute-and-half live on Zoom. Selected contestants from this round were invited for the Round Three (Finals). In the last round, selected contestants performed their talent in their chosen category for two minutes live on Zoom on April 11. ITS judges selected three winners in each age group.
ITS 2021 had following Talent Categories: dance, singing, musical instrument, stand-up comedy, magic, acting, martial arts, painting/ face painting, henna design/rangoli, martial arts, reading famous speeches, acting/miming and others. Overall, the talent show successfully brought together contestants, parents and supporters.
According to IACA’s Golden Jubilee Co-Chair and Project Director for ITS, Ani Agnihotri, “This event is a celebration of talent, confidence and hard work of children and youth, and something that organization would always like to grow.”
IACA golden jubilee celebrations have been an invigorating force for IACA this year as it has almost doubled its annual membership and is working feverishly to facelift its building for an Open House in late June/early July as well as 25th Annual Festival of India on August 15 at the Infinite Energy Center.
