Colors fly at IACA's celebration of Holi
IACA celebrated Holi, the spring festival of colors, at its facility in Smyrna, Georgia. During this celebration, as in Mardi Gras, social norms are relaxed, and gaps between age, gender, and status are diminished—as was evident on March 30th at the IACA grounds. The celebrations lasted from noon to 5pm, with around 700 people attending and reveling in the tossing of colored powders.
The celebrations were made more colorful by the presence of Shri Ajit Kumar, Consul General of India, along with his family and renowned portrait maker Mr. Rossen with his wife Dessi and kids. Mr. Kaushal Tripathi, President of IACA welcomed the Chief Guest with the traditional gulal and other colors.
Dr. Paddy Sharma, Chairperson of IACA, spoke to the gathering about the importance of Holi and also invited the youth to take over the reins of IACA. Mr. Ajit Kumar also spoke, calling Holi a festival of the victory of good over evil.
Hundreds of participants danced to the tunes of DJ-Tiger and Bhangra. The event was organized by Mr. Anoop Kapoor and other members of IACA. Food was organized by Madras Bhavan and Mrs. Rajshree Saibaba Arcot.
Various community organizations participated, including the Greater Atlanta Punjabi Society, GNMS, Members of BAJA, GATA, and AMMA.
