Churchill Scholarship For GATech Senior
Monique Gupta, a Georgia Tech Industrial Systems and Engineering senior, has won the prestigious Churchill Scholarship for a year of study at the University of Cambridge. Gupta, who plans a career as a physician, intends to use her scholarship to get a Master of Philosophy in genetics.
The Winston Churchill Foundation of the United States, established in 1959, offers 10 scholarships each year to outstanding American students to do graduate work in engineering, mathematics, and the sciences at Churchill College, Cambridge University. Churchill Scholarships provide for one year of tuition and fees (approximately $25,000), plus a living allowance of $10,000-$12,000 and a travel allowance of $500. Only 75 universities are allowed to nominate students for this prestigious honor.
Earlier winners of the scholarship include former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher and former presidents Ronald Reagan and George Bush.
Gupta has earlier won the prestigious Goldwater scholarship for excellence in excellence in engineering, science and mathematics,
A trained classical dancer, Gupta also loves to travel, read and watch TV.
