Bollywood Buffs Sing Their Heart At Antakshari
A musical Antakshari of popular Bollywood songs held at the Impact Conference Center inside Global Mall on December 28. The event was sponsored by Horizon Bank and Raksha Insurance. The game show was produced by Ved Bhatia of TV Asia and organized by local promoter Mustafa Ajmeri. TV anchor Anisha Daftari was the host for the evening.
The audience was divided into three teams, namely Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand and Raj Kapoor. Team members were selected from the audience who answered open questions correctly. Each time a member failed to answer a question put to him or her, he/she was replaced with another member of the audience (who qualified by correctly answering another open question).
There were four rounds to the game, namely ?Straight antakshari', ?Dhun round', ?Movie round' (singing a song of a given movie) and ?Video round'. The team that lost ten members was eliminated from the game. In the end, the team with the least number of players lost was judged the winning team. No song was repeated during the evening.
?Raj Kapoor' was adjudged the winning team. Georgia Indo American Chamber of Commerce (GIACC) chairman SP Reddy gave away the prizes to Vaibhav Sathe and Wasim Quadri of the ?Raj Kapoor' team. The lucky winners won copies of the book, To Be Or Not To Be, a biography of Amitabh Bachan by wife Jaya. Sathe is an avid antakshari buff, and has been playing the game show in Mumbai and Seattle (from where he recently moved). Indu Dey of ?Raj Kapoor' contributed substantially to her team and was instrumental in carrying it to the winner's pedestal.
For the close to 150 people that attended the Antakshari, the evening blended seamlessly with popular Bollywood music. The mood was infectious, and the audience participated with enthusiasm. Being a holiday weekend, the game show had people from other states like Michigan, Louisiana and Virginia. Around 25 people actually participated in the game.
The game show was aired on TV Asia. The organizers plan another antakshari in the coming months.
