Blood donations increase at Sant Nirankari Mission event
Blood is not something you can buy at a store! That is a major reason why the Sant Nirankari Mission Atlanta organizes its blood drives. The latest drive was on the afternoon of April 4, 2015 at Global Mall, Norcross, where, with the help of the Red Cross Blood Center of Atlanta, 62 people registered and 48 were able to donate blood—one of the highest percentages of donations in all of the blood drives held by the Sant Nirankari Mission Atlanta.
“Blood should flow in veins, not in drains,” as His Holiness Baba Hardev Singh Ji Maharaj has said. Some of us give blood because we were asked by a friend. Some know that a family member or a friend might need blood some day. Some believe it is the right thing to do. If you donate money, you might give food, but if you donate blood, you save lives and contribute towards a healthier society. We should give it to each other as an act of humanity.
Volunteers arrived hours ahead of opening time. The Mission offered free publications, including books and audio CDs, and free snacks and lunch. The youth (ages 13 and younger) helped by passing out publications, singing, and sharing jokes with visitors to the mall to keep the environment lighthearted.
A team of medical doctors, surgeons, and nurses is always invited to give free medical services to the community, and many people took advantage of this checkup since not everyone has the benefits of insurance.
