BAGA Classical Concert Series: Fall Concert

The Bengali Association of Greater Atlanta (BAGA) presented a Sarod concert by Pandit Buddhadev Dasgupta on Sarod as a part of their Classical Concert Series. It was held at the Georgia Tech Student Center on Saturday, November 23, 2002.

The most prominent disciple of Late Pandit Radhika Mohan Moitra, Buddhadev Dasgupta has a unique style of presenting alaap and beautiful bandishes. The concert started at 3:00 p.m. and Pandit Dasgupta chose to play Hamsakinkini ? a raga normally played in the afternoon. The bandish started with Vilambit Teentaal and followed by a drut Teentaal. His second presentation was Raga Sahana, which was presented with a short bandish in Teentaal. After a short break, he started with an evening raga Kedar, set to Dhamar taal, a rhythm of 14 beat cycle. The evening concluded with a very melodious presentation of raga Khamaj and followed by Zilla Kafi in 16 beat cycles. Mr. Debendra Kanti Chakraborty on Tabla and Dr. Kakali Bandyopadhyay on Tanpura accompanied Pandit Dasgupta.

About a hundred music lovers attended the concert. Pandit Dasgupta kept them glued to their seats till the very end. The Indian Classical Music of Greater Atlanta co-sponsored this concert.
