Atlantan Bags Service Award at National Banga Sammelan
July 4th, 2005. The 25th Banga Sammelan at Madison Square Gardens, which was deemed "the largest Bengali event anywhere in the world, second only to the Durga Puja (Bengali New Year)" was a veritable gathering of the "Who's Who" of the Bengali diaspora ? ranging from the literati such as Chitra Bannerji Divakaruni to Statesmen such as Pranab Mukherjee, India's Defense Minister.
Atlantan Indivar Dutta-Gupta bagged one of the national awards at this landmark event. It was particularly noteworthy as it was the first time that a second-generation youngster was awarded for Social Service. Indivar, who is currently doing his summer leadership training for his Truman Scholarship at George Washington University in DC, will work as an Emerson Congressional National Hunger Fellow in DC from August, and currently works with former Clinton aide Thomas Freedman at Freedman Consulting in DC on hunger and other issues.
At the same event, Indivar's father, Mr. Anjan Dutta-Gupta was awarded a Business Leadership Award by Pranab Mukherjee.
