On June 9, in a jubilant atmosphere in the Global Mall, where a fully packed crowd of Indians filled with cheers and applause, the Atlanta chapter of Overseas Friends of BJP (OFBJP-USA) and supporters of Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated the victory of the BJP-led NDA coalition in the recently-concluded general elections. Among others joining the celebration included N Sri Ramchandra Rao, former MLC, and Rakesh Reddy, current MLA from BJP, of Telangana State of India. Their inspiring speeches attracted the audience. Both the BJP leaders from Telangana state were in Atlanta attending the American Telugu Association (ATA) conference. The celebration coincided with the swearing-in ceremony of Modi as Prime Minister of India for a third term, a first in over 60 years.

The celebration started with a couple of patriotic songs and dance performances by the students of Nritya Natya Kala Bharati. Vasudev Patel, a prominent leader of OFBJP-USA, while welcoming the crowded gathering, said that Modi’s victory is a historic occasion and a proud moment for all of us. He said Modi is the only three-time Chief Minister of a state in India as well as the three-time Prime Minister. Modi’s win was only the second time an Indian leader has retained power for a third term after Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first prime minister.

Earlier, Shiv Aggarwal, philanthropist and owner of Global Mall, and Dhirubhai Shah of India Awareness Foundation (IAF) addressed the large crowd. The celebration concluded with a sumptuous dinner served to all attendees. Modi’s victory celebrations were held in many cities across the U.S. under the aegis of Overseas Friends of BJP (OFBJP-USA).
