Atlanta Cricket Academy’s First Annual Banquet

Atlanta Cricket Academy (ACA) celebrated its first annual banquet in a grand style on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at the Casablanca Banquet Hall in Alpharetta, GA. ACA Executive Committee members presented 2017 success stories and a roadmap for 2018, and also launched its website.

The stage was attractively decorated with balloons and an ACL banner. Sparkling trophies were displayed on tables adjacent to the stage. In the engaging program emceed by Lahari Pisike and Sanjana Sidike, the audience was regaled with captivating songs, dances, and performances on musical instruments such as clarinets by young performers. While the gathering was relishing spicy snacks, young Viraj Vaghela energized the audience with his rendering of the popular “Champions” song. Quizzes also elicited a lot of fun, and prizes were given to quiz-winners.

ACA cricket coach Anand Tummala gave an absorbing talk on the role of parents in nurturing and supporting children’s passion for cricket, and he noted that cricket is gaining popularity around the world. He recognized coach Alex Camilus who could not be present, and commended ACA Committee members Venu Pisike, Murali Vijjapurapu, Pravin Vaghela, and Deepak Roy (also an ACA Coach), calling them “four pillars of ACA.”

Awards and trophies were presented to all the committed, upcoming, and high performance cricket players. Tournament sponsor ASK Staffing presented trophies and medals to the Annual Champions Trophy and Challenger Trophy winners and runners-up. Coach Anand, guests Dhiru Shah – President-elect GIBC and Mahadev Desai – Atlanta’s veteran freelance journalist, and ACA committee members were also invited to present trophies to outstanding performers. Dhirubhai Shah and Mahadev Desai were recognized and presented with bouquets.

ACA’s wins at two 2017 championships were celebrated: ACA Avatars won the US Open Youth U13 cricket tournament held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida over the last weekend of October 2017. They also won the Minor Cricket League (MiCL) U13 Cricket tournament held in St. Louis, MO over Labor Day weekend.
